SOMOS FAMILIA VALLE was founded on September 6, 2014 and started the first San Fernando Valley Pride March & Conference on October 12, 2014 in Panorama City with the theme "COMING OUT OF THE SHADOWS." It sprouted our 100% volunteer led grassroots LGBTQ+ movement in the Valley.
Our second San Fernando Valley Pride was on November 14, 2015 in Pacoima with the theme "MORE THAN MARRIAGE", which brought together 200+ neighbors. The visibility, civic engagement, and education continued.
We held our third #SFVPride march and conference titled "A SAFER PLACE TO CALL HOME" on Saturday, November 13, 2016 in Van Nuys. Nearly 400 youth, parents, and allies rallied and got their free education with us and put us on the map to be a prominent organization with a focus on creating programs and services for our community.
The fourth #SFVPride titled "REBIRTH. RESIST. RECLAIM. REVITALIZE." focused on the importance of remembering our LGBTQ+ history and modern movement efforts. We grounded ourselves in ancestral empowerment, opportunities for organizational innovation, and political transformation. Our 2017 efforts witnessed the largest amount of middle and high school students yet in our history. This was the year we transition to a 501(c)3 non profit organization.
In 2018 & 2019, we took the time to develop our award winning programs, workshops, direct services and events to show San Fernando Valley Pride all year round. This became our focus as we prioritize our community members.
2020 & 2021 with Covid-19 & the George Floyd uprising we uplifted the movement to #DefundThePolice and rallied community members in North Hollywood Park for Pride Celebration which centered #BlackTransLivesMatter and our local Black LGBTQ+ community members.
